Terry Fox Run 2012

Yesterday I had the opportunity to run in the annual Terry Fox Run again. It was my first last year and I had tons of fun. This time around, I'm joined once again by my beloved family members. My 2 sisters are the usual suspects then there's my sister in law with my nephew, Imran who's just over 1 year old!!! Then there also Fadh and his sister. There are 2 categories: Family route of 3km and Advance route of 5km. I'm happy that I managed to complete the 5km route in just slightly over 30 minutes. I believe I could have completed it under 30 minutes but some part of the route was too narrow as there were cars parked on both sides of the road and most of the runners had to squeeze themselves to get through it. Once the road was clear, I started my run. Here are some of the photos we took yesterday. 

Lil Imran was super excited for the run too!!! But he fell asleep on his mum's shoulders with just minutes to complete his first ever run. Isn't that cute folks? I'd like to thank DaDa for the gifts from Talisman and also Petronas for the Nasi Lemak. And no, I didn't eat the Nasi Lemak. It was just for the photos. Haha!!! Anyway, I'm looking forward to next year's run too!!! Enjoy the holiday people. 

Charity Legends Match

Fabrice Muamba was a guest at Sunday night's charity Corazon Classic Match between Real Madrid and Manchester United veterans teams at the Bernabeu.The Bolton midfielder, who suffered a cardiac arrest in an FA Cup tie at Tottenham in March, was given an ovation by both star-studded sides and spectators as he carried the match ball out for the kick-off.

The third edition of the Corazon Classic Match, from which the proceeds will go to Real's Foundation academies in Africa, saw Madrid beat their United counterparts 3-2 in front of a crowd of around 60,000.

Madrid's goals came from Fernando Morientes, Luis Figo and Fernando Redondo, with United's scorers being Lee Sharpe and Teddy Sheringham.Also involved in the match were the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Carlos, Emilio Butragueno, Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke and Edwin van der Sar.

Soccer Aid 2012

HOLLYWOOD A-listers and pop stars lined up with footie legends to raise £4million for a kids’ charity in last night’s Soccer Aid. Around 75,000 fans watched England beat the Rest of the World 3-1 at Old Trafford, Manchester. Will Ferrell, Mike Myers, Gerard Butler and Michael Sheen were among the celebs playing in aid of Unicef.

Soccer Aid’s England versus the Rest of the World was organised by Take That’s Robbie Williams and has so far raised more than £4 million for the children’s charity.

The Rest of the World team, which included a host of Hollywood stars including captain Michael Sheen, Ferrell, Gerard Butler, Mike Myers, James McAvoy and Edward Norton was managed by Kenny Dalglish with Ian Rush as his assistant.Football legends Hernan Crespo, Roy Keane, Clarence Seedorf, Jaap Stam, Edwin Van Der Sar and Freddie Ljungberg all lined out against England but it was Kasabian rocker Serge Pizzorno who opened the scoring leaving them one nil up at half time. Kasabian guitarist Sergio Pizzorno scored first for the Rest of the World with a spectacular chip over ex-England goalie David Seaman. Teddy Sheringham injured Gordon Ramsay in a tackle and the chef was stretchered off.

However, England – captained by Williams – staged an impressive comeback in the second half with goals from Sheringham, Robbie’s best pal Jonathan Wilkes and soccer star Kevin Phillips to take home the trophy.Take That's Mark Owen and JLS singers Aston Merrygold and Marvin Humes lined out for England along with comedians John Bishop and Paddy McGuinness and popstar Olly Murs.However, Pizzorno was a worthy man of the match winner for his sensational chip over the head of former England goalkeeper David Seaman, following a pass from Ljungberg.West Ham's Sam Allardyce managed the winning team with Peter Reid as his assistant manager.

The Government has pledged to match all the cash raised through donations.Speaking before the game, International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell said: ‘The huge public response to the Soccer Aid appeal shows that those watching tonight's game are united not only by a love of football but by a fantastic generosity of spirit.

Let's talk about something interesting, the Terry Fox Run - a charity run to collect fund for the Cancer Research Foundation held in Padang Merbok yesterday. Here's an article written by Daisy in her blog. Kinda "stole" it from her but with permission. Heh...

Honestly, the management of the event needs more improvement. The route is quite cool. However, the timing and management is very poor. It should have started earlier before the sun is up. They needed everyone to gather in the field. However, due to the hot weather condition, people chose to gather at the car park where the shade was instead. The amount of people participating in the event grew and it was great to have so much support in battling cancer. A larger crowd would mean more management needed. They should release the participants via categories such as runners, wheelers and joggers. So, in my opinion, the event needs improvement in 2 areas and that the start time and categorization. Other than that, I'd say the event was indeed successful. It was great seeing people of all shapes, age and sizes to support a charity run like this.

It was my first run yesterday so it's a learning experience for me. It ain't gonna be my last run though. I enjoyed it. Plus, I have a motivation for my next run. Follow the butt girl. Hahaha... The technique was introduced by the lady in the picture above. Great motivation seriously!!!
