The Future Of WWE

We are just hours away from WWE's latest pay-per-view, Hell In A Cell. As things are about to kick off for WWE, there tons of questions being asked around by fans, but the main question is "What the future holds for WWE?"

We've seen a lot of superstars come and go. Those who were once on top of the WWE mountain, they find themselves right back at where they started. Why? The answer is simple. Complacency. I've read numerous reports that the new superstars take things for granted. When you've been given the opportunity to shine, take it with your both hands. 

I've been fortunate enough to witness how WWE started, moved on to the Attitude era (my personal favourite time) and launched to an even greater height with the current PG era. Yes, the PG era has its ups and downs but I personally believe that it opened a lot of doors not just to WWE, but also to a whole lot of wrestlers. 

We've seen those huge, mass muscled men, who basically can kick anyone's ass at any time been given a lot of push. But what about the so called the "little guys"? WWE has made the right choice by giving the so called "little guys" a lot of push and on the other hand, opened the gates for WWE to tap into a lot of other opportunities. 

Skeptical fans asks all this question all the time "Why does it always have to be John Cena?" In a recent interview with current WWE superstar, Dolph Ziggler, he had this to say : "He's been someone that I've looked up to, but also hated for the last five years, because he is the face, he is the franchise of the WWE. And there's been guys that have become World Champion and WWE Champion who are still second fiddle to what John Cena and whatever he has going on in his life. So this guy is the guy to be in the ring with. This is the guy to go toe to toe on the mic with. This is the guy to be in the matches with that you will be in the main event. And instead of everyone going 'Hey you had a great match. You should have been in the main event' people will be telling me 'Hey, it was a great match. There's a reason why you're in the main event out there with John Cena, because you do what you do better than everyone else." I have to admit, I am a Cena fan, but I do give credit where it's due and also critic when I feel I should. This is a guy who always comes to work first and leaves the last (as it was said by many superstars on numerous occasions). This is a guy whose work ethics can never be questioned. This is the guy that Stone Cold Steve Austin passed the Attitude era torch to (actually, he passed his signature beer on his Hall of Fame induction ceremony). Cena's been in WWE for 10 years or more now. He's one of the old guards now along with Undertaker, Kane, Big Show etc. You may also wonder why are these old guards are getting all the attention compared to the new and upcoming superstars? The answer is simple. Hard work. 

As WWE heads to the future, current crop of superstars have a long way to go before they can be considered as legends. And to the WWE fans or now called WWE Universe, do continue to give the support. I believe WWE will take us all to another road of great wrestling matches and great tv. 

WWE SummerSlam 2012 Music Video

It was the 25th anniversary of SummerSlam for WWE on 19th August and it was one hell of an event. Cesaro became the new US Champ, Y2J left WWE, Sheamus retains his Heavyweight title, as does CM Punk over Show & Cena. But the main talking point was Lesnar beating Triple H, signalling what most of us think is the end of the road for Triple H. If I know WWE correctly, it's never the end for The Cerebral Assassin. He's just taking a time off before he kicks Lesnar's ass. Either way, found this funny clip the WWE SuperStars making a music video. Check it out folks. 

WWE Hits Back

Joshua Fisher, writer for a Connecticut newspaper, Darien Times, has once again blasted WWE with uses of "encouraging steroid use" and "making fun of the mentally challenged." His statement was this;

 

 

"Mrs. McMahon loves to point out how she's created jobs. But she does not like to answer questions about those jobs. While CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, she created jobs that included making fun of retarded men, demeaning women and possibly encouraging steroid use — this does not even touch on how it possibly has influenced the future bullies of American schools."

WWE have now written their second statement to Mr Fisher outlining his statement.

 

 

Dear Mr. Fisher:

It is regrettable that we find it necessary to once again point out that you have made inaccurate statements and mischaracterizations in the Darien Times regarding WWE, this time in your editorial on July 12. Although this was an opinion piece, you are still required to report accurately and not distort the truth. This is now at least the second instance in which you have made misstatements that damage WWE's corporate reputation.

Your assertion that WWE has made "fun of retarded men" is inaccurate, takes our content completely out of context and fails to factually portray a storyline. WWE featured a character — an actor playing a role — named "Eugene," who was a person with intellectual disabilities. He was often faced with difficult challenges, situations and rivals, including some of the most villainous and dastardly WWE characters. What you failed to convey is that Eugene, like most of WWE's "good guys," overcame the obstacles, prevailed and was a hero to our millions of fans.

Your statement that WWE was "demeaning women" is also inaccurate and again takes our content out of context and makes no mention of storylines. WWE has produced a variety of powerful and heroic female characters throughout the years that have come up against malicious villains, who are also actors playing a role. And yes, those "bad guys" do reprehensible things, but they eventually pay a price for their behavior. Our television audience would not be nearly 40 percent female if we were degrading women.

As it relates to the foregoing clarifications, it is important to note that WWE programming, like Hollywood movies and Broadway shows, is an exciting blend of action, characters and fictional storylines of good versus evil that entertains millions every week. Without Darth Vader there is no Luke Skywalker. We, too, create protagonists and antagonists and tell stories of good versus evil.

You also wrote that WWE has been "encouraging steroid use," which is a blatant misstatement of fact. WWE prohibits steroid use and conducts a minimum of four random drug tests per year for all talent, and any performer that tests positive is suspended. WWE began testing for steroids in 2006, before many major sports leagues, and we currently have one of the most comprehensive talent wellness programs in all of sports and entertainment, managed by world renowned third party medical experts. Additionally, WWE has always encouraged its talent to live a healthy lifestyle, as they are the company's greatest asset. In your editorial, you also state that WWE "influenced the future bullies of American schools." The fact is that WWE promotes anti-bullying and has created a global initiative called be a STAR (ShowToleranceAndRespect) designed to teach children how to deal with conflict in the real world. We recognize the power and influence of our brand and spend a considerable amount of time and resources to make sure children understand the difference between what they see on television, where storylines and conflicts are resolved in the ring, versus how to deal with challenges in everyday life.

WWE expects you will print this letter in as public a manner as that in which you made the foregoing false statements. In the future, we request you contact us for factual information about our company before attempting to characterize our programming as you continue to do so erroneously.

What more can I say about the WWE Superstars after a hellacious night at the grandest stage of 'em all, WrestleMania XXVIII. They were simply amazing and thrilled the 78,000 who attended the historic event. Here's what happened the night after, at Monday Night Raw (will be shown at 10pm Malaysian time tonight)

Post WrestleMania XXVIII : SPOILER ALERT!!!

In recent years, World Wrestling Entertainment has tried to cash in on the expected added viewers of the Monday Night Raw immediately following WrestleMania by doing things out of the ordinary. In years past, we have seen the WWE Draft held on this night, but it was last year that WWE decided to announce the main event for WrestleMania 28, pitting John Cena against the Rock. With that pay-per-view behind us now, WWE needed to come up with some new material for the show.

We saw Chris Jericho throw alcohol in the face of WWE Champion, CM Punk. We saw the Rock announce that he wants to be WWE Champion one day. We even saw the Funkasaurus side with Santino Marella, protecting him from Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger. But none of those things can compare to the return of former WWE Champion, Brock Lesnar.

The man who was once known as the Next Big Thing hadn't seen a WWE ring since WrestleMania XX when he met Goldberg in what was one of the worst matches in WrestleMania history. The only saving grace to the match that pitted two men on their way out of WWE was that Stone Cold Steve Austin hitting stunners on them both.

To many WWE fans, Lesnar's exit from the promotion prompted anger. Personally, as a fan of the sport for 20 years now, the way Lesnar left WWE without even turning back was a disgrace. He was given the sport of professional wrestling on the proverbial silver platter. He went from a monster with great athletic ability to a champion, all because WWE believed in him. Instead of showing his allegiance to the promotion that put the money in his bank account, he left in hopes of reaching his dream of being a professional football player.

When those plans to play in the NFL fell through, Lesnar turned his sights to the world of mixed martial arts and became an instant star. His brash attitude could have cost the Ultimate Fighting Championship one of their key advertisers (Bud Light), but he had so much talent in that sport, that it didn't matter what he did. As long as he wanted to fight, he would have a home in the UFC. After losing to Alistair Overeem at UFC 141 in December, Lesnar retired from MMA.

As soon as his retirement speech was done, the internet was abuzz with a possible return to professional wrestling. It took more than three months, but that return happened in a big way. With Cena expecting the Rock to appear on Raw, it was Lesnar's music that hit. After playing to the crowd, Lesnar finally made his way to the ring and extended his hand to Cena. As Cena reached his hand out, he was picked up and dropped with the F-5.

If the rumors are true that Lesnar signed a one-year deal, there are a couple of feuds that make sense during that time. This feud with Cena should be fun, but it is the potential for a match at WrestleMania 29 between Lesnar and Undertaker that would top any match ever put on at the event. If Lesnar did sign a one-year deal, a career vs. career match would easily be the main event at next year's WrestleMania from New Jersey.

The one thing I know now is I am glad to see Lesnar back. I hated the way he left, much like I hated how Kurt Angle left, but he can help bring something to the sport that has been missing for years.

WrestleMania XXVIII : In 6 Days

Things have just picked up at WWE Monday Night Raw for the grandest stage of them all, WrestleMania XXVIII. The most anticipated most of them all, Icon vs Icon, Legend vs Legend in The Making, Movie Star vs WWE Super Star ... The Rock vs John Cena is getting intense every single day. Whether be it during press conferences, talk shows, twitter etc. these two have some beef with each other. Miami, Florida Is The Destination

The feud between the two — which began after Cena slammed The Rock on SunSport's WrestleCast in 2008 — kicked off again on the show, as Rock made his first appearance for many months. However the movie star's show-closing promo was nowhere near his typical dazzling best.  Rock seemed more pre-occupied with cracking wise with puerile name calling and referencing Twitter than talking up his huge Mania encounter with Cena. In a stilted promo — which admittedly the live crowd in Portland ate up — he even appeared to have notes reminding him what to say on his arm. Amongst other juvenile insults, Rock called Cena a 'Kung Pao bitch' and once more talked of his 'ladyparts'.

The star, real name Dwayne Johnson, told his foe that while Cena claims to be fighting for the boys in the back, he is fighting for the people. Rock said: "Those same people that are fed up with having a Kung Pao bitch shoved down their throat every single night. "Listen to them John, they are tired of you. They try to tell you every single night.  "But they are not tired of being entertained. And that's where I come in." Cena, though, interrupted The Brahma Bull with a stinging response. He shot back: "You're right, I'm the guy who runs you down when you're not here.  "But as usual you're only half right, because I'm the guy who runs you down when you are here.

"These people love 'The Rock'. I was one of these people until I got to meet 'Dwayne Johnson'. Dwayne Johnson is a self-centred, egotistical, see-through son of a bitch that wouldn't give a rat's ass if this company closed its doors tomorrow. "I'll tell you something. I don't need words like 'loyalty' and 'respect' to trend worldwide, just like I don't need my notes for my promo on my wrist. "On April 1, when the millions see John Cena versus The Rock, John Cena's going to be eyeing up Dwayne Johnson, and I don't like Dwayne Johnson. I'm going to be looking into the eyes of Dwayne Johnson and see a man afraid. "You're going to be looking a dude who may not have balls, but a dude that's going to beat the hell out of you at WrestleMania."

Many viewers watching felt the animosity between the two was real Kung Pao especially after Cena mentioned the notes on Rock's arm Kung Pao and that, at least, will carry on building momentum into WrestleMania 28. This year's Mania is shaping up to be a strong show, with Triple H v Undertaker, CM Punk v Chris Jericho and Sheamus v Daniel Bryan also on the card. 

WrestleMania XXVIII Preview

WrestleMania XXVIII is the forthcoming twenty-eighth annual WrestleMania professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by WWE. It is scheduled to take place on April 1, 2012 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. There are currently four official matches scheduled for the event's card.

The main event heading into WrestleMania XXVIII, would feature The Rock going up against John Cena. Cena challenged The Rock to a one-on-one match at WrestleMania XXVIII. With The Rock subsequently accepting, the match was officially announced on WWE.com. Let's watch the videos folks.

A second main event match scheduled for WrestleMania would pit The Undertaker against Triple H in a Hell in a Cell match. Last year at WrestleMania XXVII, in a No Holds Barred match, The Undertaker defeated Triple H via submission, in their second encounter at a WrestleMania (the first being at WrestleMania X-Seven in 2001, where The Undertaker won as well). However, in the post-match events, due the harsh physicality suffered during the bout, The Undertaker failed to leave the venue (Georgia Dome) on his power, as he was carted away by the medical staff on a stretcher for the first time in his career, while Triple H left on his own accord. Triple H finally accepted The Undertaker's challenge at WrestleMania XXVIII, saying that if "he [Undertaker] wanted an end, they would go all the way", and proposed that they would compete in a Hell in a Cell match.

In January 2012, at the twenty-fifth annual Royal Rumble pay-per-view, Sheamus won the thirty-man Royal Rumble match, giving him the right to challenge either the WWE Champion or the World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania XXVIII. At the Elimination Chamber event in February, Sheamus attacked Daniel Bryan, after the latter successfully retained his World Heavyweight Championship in an Elimination Chamber match, thus declaring his wish to challenge Bryan for his title at WrestleMania.

Another match booked for WrestleMania is from the Raw brand, which would see CM Punk defending the WWE Championship against Chris Jericho. On the February 13 edition of Raw, Jericho accused Punk in an in-ring segment of being a copycat of him, and that he (Punk) stole his proclamation of being the "best in the world". While competing in the Raw Elimination Chamber match at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, Jericho was knocked out by a kick to the head by Punk, rendering him unable to compete any further. This incident further fueled Jericho's animosity towards Punk. On the February 20 edition of Raw, Jericho last eliminated Big Show to win a ten-man battle royal to determine the number-one contender to face Punk for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania XXVIII to prove who is "the best in the world".

Road to WrestleMania 28

The Road to WrestleMania 28 has begun in the WWE. We're just 2 weeks away from Royal Rumble where the traditional 30 men will compete for a shot at the WWE or the World Heavyweight Championship. Tonight, we'll have to more inductees of the WWE Hall of Fame announced on Monday Night Raw.

It came as a huge surprise when WWE announced that The Rated "R" Superstar will be inducted for the Class of 2012. Personally, I thought it would be more emotional if he were to be inducted in his hometown, Toronto, Canada. There has been a rumour saying the next WrestleMania will be held there. But I guess WWE just couldn't wait to honour Edge for his undying support and charismatic work for the business the absolutely loved.

This time, the Hall of Fame will get Rated "R"!!! Thank you Edge!!!



Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year to everyone!!! How was 2011? I hope we all left 2011 in a very good note as we embark on another journey in 2012. Time to look forward and not look back on what could've been or all the what if's. For me personally, I ended with an absolutely good note.

Now, let's focus on 2012. What's your New Year Resolutions? Let's see what I have in mind. Hmm *thinking really hard here* ... Oh, I got one!!! How's this "Dear God,my prayer for 2012 is for a fat bank account and a thin body..Please don't mix this up like last year.." Hahahaha.. Okay okay, I'm just messing around with you all. Share some insights on your Resolutions yeah..

Let's recap what happened on WWE's Monday Night Raw recently. Cryptic videos have been playing for a couple of weeks on a returning WWE Superstar. Who could it be? It was non other than The Ayatolla of Rock N' Rolla himself, Chris Jericho!!!! This time around, he was smiling all the way through his return. Didn't say a word, kept fist pumping and teasing the crowd. Gotta say, his return has always been magnificent.

I just gotta wonder if there's actually another WWE Superstar plotting a return. In the video mentioned "She holds the mystery of my rebirth". Who is that "She"? Check out his return on the video below:

Edge Appreciation Night

Last week on Friday Night Smackdown!, WWE held an emotional appreciation night for the former 11 time WWE Champion, Edge, in his hometown of Toronto, Canada. It's been a couple of months since he left the business he loved so much and on that very special night he returned to the square circle, complete with his titantron entrance music by Alter Bridge. The fans gave him a standing ovation. Altogether it was a very great show topped with the WWE honouring Edge after the show went off air. Here's some photos from the appreciation night. Enjoy!

WWE 2011 Annual Draft

This morning, while sitting in my office doing some work (liar!!!), I kept on checking the latest updates on WWE's 2011 Annual Draft. Three major WWE Superstars were traded early on. John Cena returns to SmackDown where he began his career, joined by The Viper Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio is off to Raw. At this early stage of Raw, anything can happen. I guess SmackDown needed a lot of injection after Edge's sudden retirement. Great acquisition for SmackDown though.

Now, it's seems like Raw is being robbed by SmackDown (according to WWE Diva Eve Torres, which I totally agree). Mark Henry and Sin Cara is joining Cena and Orton at Smackdown, while Big Show and Alberto del Rio is going to Raw. Huge loss to Raw basically. Can't believe Cena and Orton will be at SmackDown. Guess they needed more time with their families (can't blame them). Raw is losing its excitement and probably I ain't gonna watch much Raw from now on. Sigh...

Okay, the final match winner on Raw tonight will get a random draft pick. Who's it gonna be? Will it be Raw or SmackDown that gets the pick? Raw Superstars wins the match!!! Which Superstar is it gonna be??? And the random draft pick is ...

Thank You Edge - Post SmackDown Show

World Heavyweight Champion, Edge. He received a thuderous applause not only from the

WWE Universe, but also from his colleagues.

I would have to say that the WWE handled his retirement really well. They allowed him to say his goodbyes on his terms. No script needed. No boring storyline needed. That's how good Edge was. It's great to know also that his one time real life nemesis, Matt Hardy, wished him well. Here's what Matt had to say: "Heard Adam is retiring because of physical issues that won't allow him to safely continue wrestling. He'll be missed. We've certainly had our fair share of issues. Both good and bad. But I tip my hat to Edge who is one of the greatest I've been in the ring with. Adam resides in NC now, sure I'll run into him down the road. Glad that him and I are in a good place. We came in as friends and we went out that way".  

I'm just waiting for the Hall of Fame to be Rated R. 2012 perhaps??? Or WWE would want to honour Edge when Wrestlemania returns to Toronto, Canada, his hometown. Whatever happens, he'll definitely be in the Hall of Fame. Enjoy the videos folks.

Thank You Edge!!!

Last week during Raw on 11^th April 2011, marked the end of the road for one of the most decorated WWE Superstar of all time, Edge, real name Adam Copeland. He was forced to retire from all active ring bouts due to injuries. He broke his neck few years ago where he was actually wrestling on borrowed time. He started feeling numbness in his arms and losing feeling in them as well. Although he was cleared to feature in Wrestlemania XXVII in Atlanta, Georgia, that was his curtain call. A truly great performer, who gave his all to the WWE Universe and deserves all the respect and retired as an Eleven time WWE/World Heavyweight Champion.

His spine had suffered too much damage, and he would never be medically cleared to compete again. It was a sudden announcement. Up till that night, he was still scheduled to face Alberto Del Rio in a Ladder Match at Extreme Rules. But there it was. The career of one of the greatest Superstars in WWE history was over.  

In an emotional farewell on the 15^th April edition of SmackDown, Edge said his final goodbyes. The entire locker room came out to pay tribute to one of the most decorated WWE Champions in WWE history. In total, he would carry 31 titles in WWE – the most out of any Superstar in history!!! Whatever happens, there’s only one thing left to say: Thank You Edge!!!
