A Goal Sent by Heaven

Doncaster star Billy Sharp has thanked fans for their support after scoring just days after his two-day old son tragically died. Sharp, who struck the opening goal in Doncaster's 3-1 defeat to Middlesbrough on Tuesday before unveiling a T-shirt bearing the words 'that's for you son', has opened his heart on dealing with his sadness.

The striker lost Louie Jacob on Saturday, and the fans and players at the Keepmoat Stadium gave a minute’s applause to celebrate his short life.

"I was crying [during] the minute's applause. Thanks to both sets of fans." Rovers manager Dean Saunders said Sharp had wanted to score for his boy. He revealed: "He rung me and asked if he could play - he wanted to play. He wanted to score a goal for his son and his family and he was ready to go. When he said that to me I couldn't really refuse.
